Since I needed another hard drive for my server but lacked the space inside the case, I needed a solution that could be external to my server case, but still had the speed that the SATA interface adds. After a lot research, I settled on the Azio External eSATA Hard Drive Kit. What makes this external drive shine is its eSata interface.
What's the difference between eSATA and SATA? Are they compatible? Do I need to buy a new interface card to work with a SATA drive? No. There isn't any difference whatsoever between eSATA and SATA except that eSATA cables...
In an age where I my backups take up several gigabytes, why are dual layer discs still so expensive? I purchased a dual layer burning DVD drive at the end of 2004, yet 3 years later, the typical cost of a dual layer disc is still costs around $2/disc. I have tons of data to backup (OS images, hard drive backups, GBs of photos, etc) and it’s not like I’m looking to pirate a ton of movies, so what’s the beef?
I’ve done some browsing around the web and there seems to be a ‘group think’ that it’s because the media...
OK, my latest run in with a media server solution seemed to have gone just as abysmally as the previous two attempts. I've been looking at Linux and MythTV for quite a while because anyone not doing Microsoft's Media Center was doing that. It's just that open source software and I don't have a good track record together. I've tried doing Linux MCE, which looks impressive in and of itself, but I could never get the dastardly thing to install correctly. I've tried KnopMyth, too, but it never has worked out. So, after my EVA8000 problem, I did something really...
OK, my previous post outlined some of the expectations that I had for the Netgear EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD but let's just say that I am mildly disappointed. To be brief, the EVA8000 could have used another year of dev time to iron out a lot of firmware kinks. The fact that the firmware is closed source leaves most of us out to dry, even though there is still active development and beta releases for firmware updates.
Gripes? Where do I start?
Without upgrading to beta firmware, the EVA8000 purports to support H.264 M4V files, which it does not. Upgrading the firmware...
