I Took The Plunge!

Last Monday I took the plunge and swiped the plastic for a brand new 80GB iPod. Verdict so far: AWESOME! I love being able to take my entire music collection wherever I go. I am especially excited to be able to watch movies, etc. on it and not have to worry too much about capacity. Considering I only need to make my movies in 640x480, a full feature length movie ought not take up too much space. ROCK ON!So what does a working professional have use for an iPod? It is really nice to...

Ready For A New Host

Well, after what has seemed like an eternal struggle," I have quit using 1planhost.com for all my hellish hosting needs and switched over to GoDaddy.com. So far so good. I've been running into DNS problems (which are all related to my previous host)", but with a certain amount of luck I should be running a whole lot smoother now...

Initial Impressions of iTunes 7

I'm not a die hard Apple fan, per se, but I do enjoy a couple of their products. I've been using iTunes for a couple of years now, not because their media player is any better (in fact I use WinAmp about 99.99% of the time) but because I like to buy songs every once in a while. I don't own an iPod (and if my wife has anything to do with it, I never will) but I decided to abandon version 5 of iTunes to be able to get the season finale of Lost.Getting videos was just...

TV Networks 'Tuning In' To The Digital Age

C|Net News has an interesting article reporting on how the TV networks, more specifically NBC, are finally starting to leverage the Internet to publicize and even present their ad supported shows. For example, NBC is reported as saying that they will be streaming select TV shows 24/7 starting at 2am the following day of the premier of an episode. NBC hopes to be able to catch a wider audience that spends more time on the Internet than watching TV.I myself find this to be a start in the right direction. Last summer ABC, in conjunction with...

Never Too Old to Play Games

Today I was talking with one of my co-workers about gaming. He's a forty-something analyst who is about is geeky as you get. We were talking about usual geek stuff like computers, hardware, etc. When I told him that one of the few things holding me back from getting a Mac is the fact that I'm a gamer who loves to play. He told me "I'm not a gamer. I'm too old for that."How depressing. Sure, his youngest child is in high school, but too old to play games? He played games in...

Mobile Content Just a Niche

C|Net News has an interesting article about the current failure of mobile content providers to 'connect' with the market. According to the article, a measly 15% of mobile users have paid and downloaded such content. The content included in this analysis includes everything from ring tones to music to videos. Why? Well, the article claims that providers aren't selling things packaged together, say, like P-Diddy music, ring tones, and games. Instead, they are currently selling them as individual and unrelated products. While this will improve their sales, I believe there is a stronger reason why they are havin difficulty....

Today I Snitched

Today I just want to proclaim that I ran out of Diet Pepsi® from one of my work cabinets and snitched a pure, unadultrated 20 fl oz Pepsi® with 28g of sugar per 8 fl oz serving. THERE!Ok, now that I have that out of my system...I actually found the drink to be a little too sweet. So much for living on the edge...

My Experience With Windows Media Center 2005

When I saw the awesome power of the Windows Media Center 2005 Edition on a computer that my dad had purchased, I knew that someday I wanted to get one for myself. So the last summer I did. I bought quite a few new parts and built me a machine from scratch. There were a lot of reasons for this, but all in all I am very choosy and picky about what components go into a computer. The setup was relatively simple and putting together was a snap. However, there were quite a few gripes that I...

All We Have Is Dust In The Wind...

Sometimes when your perspective is a little out of whack, you start puting too much value on things that don't matter. Today (on my son's first birthday) I suffered a catastrophic server crash on my home PC. All the data stored on there represented months of work on various projects and it all went down the drain. Fortunately I had completed several projects in the past few days, but it was still a heart wrenching experience to see all those things go...In the end though, I realized that the things on that server weren't that important. ...
